Our Bible curriculum is simply the best! Our long-term goal is for the children to end up wise men and women, and so we chose the most effective way to learn the Bible. We’ve used this method in our homeschool for years.
We read short stories directly from the Bible. The stories are usually from Genesis or Matthew. The children retell the story. It’s that simple!
To spice things up, sometimes we do an art project, act a story out, or answer questions.
Why retell the story?
We have noticed that retelling the story is the better activity to do. It motivates the children to pay attention. It gives them. practise in recalling the story. They get practice speaking.
Six year olds who practice retelling get so good at it, they are better than most adults by age seven!
Why use the Bible?
Think about this: If you wanted to know what was in the U.S. Constitution would you
A. Read a book about it
B. Take a course on it
C. Watch a movie about it
D. Do an arts and crafts project on it.
E.. Just read it.
I promise you that E is the best use of your time. If you skimmed The Constitution, you would know more about it that 99% of Americans. And you would see the spin people put on it when they speak about it.
Likewise, the best way to know what is in the Bible is to read it.
Why not use story Bibles?
Story Bibles present cute and sanitized stories which makes it harder to accept the harsh realities of the Bible.
If it was drummed into your head that Nosh made a floating zoo, just for fun…

You’ll have to get rid of that idea to accept that Noah was saving life on earth.
Is this how you imagine David and Goliath?

Or do you imagine David and Goliath more like this?

The wrong ideas that story Bibles plant will have to be uprooted if your child is ever to learn what the Bible really says.
Most people never weed out the wrong ideas.
Most people graduate from cutesy story Bibles to fluff-devotionals, flattering Christian books, and encouraging sermons.
